Zoals de Amerikaanse stripreporter Joe Sacco in War on Gaza zelf aangeeft, keken veel lezers naar hem voor een gefundeerde mening over de escalatie van het conflict in de Gazastrook. Hij maakte eerder immers twee stevige strips over de regio, Palestine en Footnotes in Gaza. Hij begint War on Gaza met een veroordeling van de terroristische aanval door Hamas op 7 oktober 2023, maar kiest in de rest van dit lange opiniestuk resoluut de kant van de gebombardeerde bevolking. Daarbij viseert hij Israël, maar evenzeer de regering-Biden, die hij verwijt de rode loper te hebben uitgerold voor de Israëlische premier Netanyahu, door wapens te leveren en de oorlog te lang als zelfverdediging te hebben voorgesteld. Toen Sacco zijn pamflet afrondde, was Biden nog in de running voor een herverkiezing, wat de auteur doet verzuchten dat de VS de keuze hadden tussen iemand die genocide rechtvaardigde en iemand die de democratie wilde ontmantelen. Door zijn scherpe analyse wordt Sacco’s verontwaardiging bijzonder besmettelijk.
